Once the screen is opened more than 90 degrees, the elevated-style hinge makes the keyboard part slightly raised and the typing sensation becomes more comfortable. In addition, this design also provides extra space for heat dissipation from the fan at the bottom.
The material feels solid with an aluminum top cover that is also premium and not easily soiled by finger marks. It makes you feel more confident when you wear it during meetings with clients, or when you bring it to school or campus for students.
The keyboard is pretty standard, but still comfortable for fast typing and of course, it's backlit with two levels. Below the keyboard is a touchpad that is not too big, and also houses the fingerprint sensor.

As far as our usage goes, there is nothing to complain about the Aspire 5 Slim A514-55's screen. The images are quite sharp and the color presentation is okay. There is nothing special about the color accuracy, as it is not designed for needs such as photo/video editing or graphic design.
The bezels around the screen are quite large, especially at the top and bottom. At the top of the screen, you're presented with an HD webcam that's of decent quality for taking meetings or online classes on Zoom. Talking a bit about audio, this laptop is supported by stereo speakers with a quality that we found mediocre.

The Aspire 5 Slim A514-55 is armed with a 10-core 12-thread Intel Core i5-1235U processor up to 4.4GHz with Intel Turbo Boost technology. While the graphics rely on Intel UHD Graphics, you can enable Intel Iris Xe provided you upgrade the memory to dual-channel.
Yes, the built-in RAM is still single-channel only, 8 GB DDR4. You can make it dual-channel by installing another 8 GB of RAM in the available slots. In addition, you can also add storage via the 2.5-inch SATA slot, if the built-in 512 GB NVMe Gen4 storage is not enough.
So, how does it perform? For standard daily work needs, it's definitely more than adequate. The performance is nimble enough, although it will be even better when the RAM is upgraded to dual-channel. For office work, studying, or enjoying entertainment such as watching HD movies, no upgrade is fine.
The battery lasted 6-7 hours in our usage style. If you need to charge it, Acer provides a small charger that easily fits in your bag. In terms of wireless connectivity, the laptop is equipped with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
