Intel is taking advantage of the official launch of Windows 7 to offer its first generic Wi-Fi and WiMAX drivers compatible with the latter. In addition to Windows XP and Windows Vista, this new version 13.0.0.0 of the PROSet / Wireless WiFi Connection Utility now supports 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 7.

Centrino laptops sold ex officio with Windows 7 are most likely accompanied by this version 13.0. However, if you plan to install Windows 7 yourself on a laptop already in your possession, you will be happy to learn the release of this update.

Support for the Centrino 3 Calpella mobile platform

Windows 7 support is not the only novelty of these drivers which also provide compatibility with Wi-Fi and WiMAX wireless network cards which will be supplied with future laptops based on the Centrino 3 mobile platform Calpella (core i5 / i7, PCHM series 5) expected by the end of the year. These are the network chipsets of the Centrino Advanced-N 6200, Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 and WiFi Link 1000 series.
