Overview & Design
Finally came the awaited one, Acer Nitro 5 AN515 58, Acer's second caste gaming laptop, which feels really scaled up, the feel is already like using a predator not like the previous nitro laptops, suitable for gamers who like to show off gaming laptops.
This laptop has rather bulky dimensions with a length of 36 X 27.1 cm and a thickness of 2.69 cm. The unit we received has an obsidian black color, with polycarbonate material that is very sturdy and solid.
Keyboard
This laptop has a full-size keyboard with a numkey area and some additional physical keys, including a nitro sense shortcut next to the Num Lock.
The feel is comfortable and responsive and has the right key travel, not too deep but not too low either, so it feels good when pressed. The keyboard comes with 4 RGB zones.
For the touchpad part, it looks ordinary, nothing stands out from this touchpad. But we think it's very enough, considering that the laptop market segment is more to gamers who often use a mouse rather than a touchpad.
Screen
Although it has a low price, the screen on this laptop should not be underestimated, using an FHD resolution IPS panel that has a refresh rate of 165Hz, satisfied anyway for gaming, the screen tearing story is already auto blacklisted anyway.
Want to make a design? woo yes you can, the color gamut is wide poll bro, up to 100% sRGB, with Narrow Bezell Display, which makes the bezels on the right and left sides quite thin compared to previous generation Nitro laptops.
Connectivity & I/O Ports
When it comes to I/O Ports, this laptop has a complete and future proof I/O that is divided into 3 places. On the right side there are 2 USB Type A, then on the left side there is 1 USB Type A and 1 Audio combo jack.
Then at the back there is 1 thunderbolt 4, 1 HDMI, and 1 DC in, very complete. And for connectivity, this laptop already uses the latest Wi-Fi 6 module AX1650i and Bluetooth 5.2 which makes the laptop less latency.
Finally, there is also support for Killer intelligence center software for network management on your laptop, so in this app you can prioritize bandwidth according to the apps needed.
Webcam
On the other hand, this laptop is equipped with a webcam with standard quality, even somewhat dull, in terms of coloring and lighting it's not bad, but the noise is quite annoying.
Even though when we tested the room we used it had fairly good lighting. Homework for the Acer RnD team, hopefully you can give a little upgrade to this webcam on the next nitro laptop.
Storage & Upgradability
This laptop is embedded with 16GB DDR5 RAM with 4800MHz frequency, and 512GB NVMe gen 4 SSD storage which is very fast! 6950 MBps man, almost to 7000. Whether it's the SSD or the RAM, the capacity is pretty big again.
If that's not enough, Acer has provided 1 empty ram slot + 2 upgradable storage consisting of 1 NVme slot and 1 2.5 inch SATA SSD/HDD slot.
Performance & Temperature
Moving on to the most interesting part, PERFORMANCE, this laptop uses Intel Core i7 12700H with a boost clock up to 4.7 GHz which is paired with RTX 3060 with TGP up to 140Watt.
Now to maintain the stability of performance and temperature, this laptop is equipped with a cooling system with 2 fans and 5 heatpipes, with exhausts at 4 points, 2 behind and 1 on the right and left sides.
CPU Test
Our first test was done using Cinebench R23, which was run for 10 consecutive times with a room temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The results were quite satisfactory, although not the fastest.
But the performance stability is one of the best so far in our lab, with a performance deviation of only 0.6%, with an average score of 16079 points and a maximum score of 16192 points. With the temperature at full load at 93.7 degrees Celsius.
Power Usage
When fully loaded, we don't think the power drawn by this laptop is too high, only in the range of 95 watts, maybe it's limited anyway, you can see it from the resulting performance, it's not as fast as the laptops we've reviewed before.
